What are the Benefits of Equine Assisted Learning?

There are a wide range of remarkable benefits for all those involved in Equine Assisted Learning.

In addition to encouraging participants to explore and experiment with Emotional Literacy (i.e. self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, motivation and social skills), EAL aids participants to gain skills for coping with emotions and high stress situations, enhances their confidence levels, encourages exploration of different approaches to problem solving and reflection as well as helping to acquire better understanding of our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Horses, ponies and donkeys live in the present moment and bring themselves into relationships authentically. They are highly attuned to human emotions and challenge us to stay congruent with our

feelings when relating to them.

Studies have shown that interacting with equines can positively impact:

• Decision-making and problem-solving skills

• Creative and critical thinking skills

• Communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to manage emotions

• Feelings of empowerment

• The ability to develop healthy connections with others.

Being in the presence of horses, ponies and donkeys can provide powerful opportunities for people to

connect with themselves and become more attuned to their body, their feelings and the physiological

changes in a non-judgmental environment.
